Self-Heal - Prunella vulgaris

Prunella vulgaris, the common self-heal, heal-all, woundwort, or heart-of-the-earth is an herbaceous plant in the mint family.

It has been used for such diverse purposes as mouth and throat ulcers, sore throat, and internal bleeding, HIV/AIDS, fever, headache, dizziness, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and spasm. It is also used as an antiseptic, and an expectorant. This explains the common same self-heal. It is antioxidant, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial.  Triterpenoids, sterols, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, organic acids, volatile oils and polysaccharides have been isolated from PVL, and triterpenoids and flavonoids are major active ingredients.1

Self-heal is rich in rosmarinic acid. It is one of the chemical constituents in medicinal plants known for its therapeutic potentials against cancer, inflammatory and neuronal diseases. It is antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. 2

Tincture dosing: up to 2 ml, 3 times per day. Start slowly as allergies and intolerances are always possible. 

Possible side effects: upset stomach and diarrhea. It helps to take it with food. Do not use if pregnant unless clearing it with your doctor.
