Another Goldenrod Post

At least 8 varieties of goldenrod (solidago) grow in my area, pretty much all in the same, sunny conditions. The aerial parts have many beneficial effects, and it is generally regarded as safe.

Goldenrod contains saponins, diterpenes, phenolic glycosides, acetylenes, cinnamates, flavonoids, tannins, hydroxybenzoates, and inulin. The saponins are antifungal against candida in particular and can be used as a mouthwash remedy for thrush.

Goldenrod flowers are edible and can be enjoyed in a salad or as fritters. The leaves can be used as a nutritious potherb.

Goldenrod is antioxidant, mildly diuretic, and astringent. This makes it a treatment for bladder problems, kidney stones, and blood in the urine. It is taken as a tea for allergic rhinitis. It is used as an eyewash for itchy, allergic eyes. Goldenrod contains quercetin and rutin, which are natural, mild antihistamines.
It is used as a styptic for wounds. It is antiseptic and drying to mucous membranes and so can be used as a gargle for sore throat. It is used in salves for eczema and small wounds. Its antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties make it an effective skin soother and infection preventer.

Who knew such a beautiful wildflower could be so universally useful!
I sell it in tincture form here
